Shadow Night: Facing the Light We’ve Been Avoiding

Tonight is said to be Shadow Night—the time when everything we’ve been avoiding comes to face us, whether we like it or not.

But what if the things we’ve avoided aren’t all dark or frightening? What if some of them are good?

We spend so much time bracing ourselves for pain that we forget to expect kindness. We get so used to negativity—online, at work, in our own heads—that we unconsciously avoid the simple, beautiful moments waiting for us.

Tonight reminded me of that. I crossed paths with people from my past—some lovely, one or two I’d rather forget—and I realised that not every return is a test. Some are gentle reminders that the world still holds warmth.

Maybe shadow work isn’t just about facing what hurts. Maybe it’s also about facing what heals—the good we once turned away from because it felt too hopeful.

So tonight, I choose to stop avoiding the light and embrace the shadows it casts. 💜
